Noorderparkfestival 2013 - Annette Vogel

I had a great day at the Noorderparkfestival. It's a really nice festival in Amsterdam-Noord. I played together with JanPaul on violin and Florean on bass. We didn't rehearse together, so it was a bit tricky but I think we did a good job for now. Thanks for supporting me, I was nervous to do this gig but some people were really nice to me and made me feel good. Noorderparkfestival 2013

I am so excited to play next Sunday at the Noorderparkfestival in Amsterdam. Mick told me he unfortunality will be in the hospital at that date so I needed another bassplayer for this gig.  I found a very nice bassplayer, he's called Florean and he always playes with Joelle and the Skylab. I heard him playing in that band and I liked what he was doing. I am so happy he will play with me, we did just a rehearsel last Tuesday at his school and while we were playing I was really thinking about starting to compose songs with more space for improvisations and  more jazz in it. That's pretty hard to do since I never had guitarlessons, so I've send guitarist Mark Tuinstra a message and I am glad  he is willing to teach me.
So these days I am busy with my music, Fridaynight there will be another SWANnight , Saturday I will rehearse with JeanPaul , Sunday I have this gig at thelNoorderparkfestival, Monday guitarlesson from Mark and Tuesday recording with Mick and Frank.

ASG café Jet Lounge, Voices on Stage, Thissfest

I didn't work on my blog for a while, sorry for that, it's because I had a lot of work to do as a teacher on a primaryschool. In the meantime I played at several places like Jet Lounge, Voices on Stage and ofcourse Thissfest in The Hague and SWAN in the Noorderparkkamer.

I am very busy busy to enjoy my holidays but this week I am gonna start working again as a schoolteacher. Again this year I will teach group 8, children of the age of 11 to 13, a very nice age and a very nice group for sure.
In the meantime I am happy to tell you I got some gigs in the future and the first one will be next Thursday, August 22,  at the Student Hostel in Amsterdam.

I just rehearsed my old songs and practising on bass-lines, since I played a little green bag for radio RTV. I am very inspired by this lick on the bass. I just made a vid of my first performance on the radio public, my daughter made a vid of this performance and you can watch it right here.

Radio RTV Noord-Holland

 Yesterday I played my song What I really Am live on the radio RTV. I was pretty nervous so I needed the lyrics with me, couldn't read them though 'cause I didn't wear my glasses. I took my daughters with me and Auke, my friend and father of our daughters en the kids were very excited and they took all pictures.

Een zomerse avond in de NoorderparkBAR

I just came back from a very nice performance at the Noorderpark in Amsterdam-Noord. This time I didn't play in the Noorderparkkamer, but I played just next to it: The NoorderparBAR.
It is a very small bar where you can order your drinks and sit outside in the parc. Two nice girls are working at this bar and they asked me if I could ask SWANsongwriters to play there. So I tried out how it feels to play there and I must say: it is GREAT!
We played outside and used the mics  of the Noorderparkkamer, which is always a good sound. The girls will set it up for you, but you have to do your own soundcheck and things.
To play in the middle of a parc is  a very nice experience.  The Noorderpark is much nicer than the Vondelpark which is overcrowded nowadays. The Noorderpark is not discovered yet and so it is a real beautiful parc ! We started at 5 pm and we saw many joggers and people who walked with their dogs and children.They smiled or waved at us and they gave us  good feelings.  The  people who passed by to have a cup of coffee, beer,  or  soup with bread and olives, were very nice to us, they listened and told us afterwards they liked our music.

I played together with Mick and Arjen;  we didn't rehearse for a while but we had fun and did a good job. I recommand all songwriters to contact these girls of the Noorderparkbar to play there, they are looking for songwriters. When it's a bit cold they will make a fire. You can play there for free drinks and soup and bread.

I will be back there soon, because we really liked to play there. But  I will be back there anyway at the next  SWANnight ( 3rd of July) and when it's good weather we and all other songwriters will play outside and the NoorderparkBAR will be open also.

Next gig for me is  Saturday;  I will play live on  radio NH !   And the week after  ( June 29th) I will go to The Hague to play at the International Songwriters Festival.

 

As I said, there was a very nice audience this afternoon at the Noorderparkbar. This girl and her friend passed by occidentality ( mn computer is te fucking langzaam dus ik kan ff niet google translate opstarten voor juiste spelling en dergelijke sorry) and some other people who stayed to listen to our two sets were very enthousiastic about our music. The girl made the pictures, and you know, it's always so nice to play for some people who are really listening and enjoying our music, so we had good feelings about this gig and actually we would have liked to play much longer but we thought it was going to rain ,so we quit, but we stayed out there to talk and have a good time together.

Mulligans, Irish Pub Amsterdam

Last night I played at Mulligans, Amsterdam, and I had a really good time with my friends and a nice audience.
When I arrived Barry, the bartender, offered some coffee and after a while we started to get the stage ready for our performance. I was a bit excited because somehow I feel as if I am at home when I am in an Irish pub. Must be because I used to play a lot in the street and in small bars all over Europe where I met lots of Irish people. I never been to Ireland, though, so I really should do this one day.

This night was the first time that  we played all my songs. I got 17 songs of my own and we played 3 Sandy Denny songs. ( The North Star and the Ravens, Who Knows, Black Water Side ).
We did 3 sets and we all felt very happy because there was a very good sound and we played very concentrated and had fun.

I think I should go more often to this pub ( Mulligans ) , almost every Thursday there is live music and there are also so called Backroom Sessions.   Miriam and Barry are both very nice people and I am glad I met them.

As a band we don't have a name, as a singersongwriter I use my own name, so it was very funny how Mulligans called me the Annette Vogel Band.

 

 

Especially for this performance I asked JanPaul Grotenhuis to join us with his violin, harmonica and mandoline.

 

 

 

In the audiënce there was a lady from San Fransisco, she told me she worked at Norway and she was on holidays now. She was very enthousiastic and sweet to me, she made some drawnings of us and wanted me to sign it. She promised me to send the drawnings as soon she's back home

What about the Future ...?

I don't know what the future will be, but I have planned some really nice gigs.

I will play at the Irish Pub Mulligans in Amsterdam on May 23 at 8 pm and last Saturday we decided I will play some songs of Sandy Denny ( Fairport Convention). Now it's been a longtime I sang these songs, so I have to try them out, but I love her music so much !

I am very happy that the musicians I play with are supporting me to sing my songs and also sing the folksongs, these songs is where I started, where I came from.

In June I will play at The International Songwriters Festival in The Hague and I am so happy that I will play in an Irish Pub again. It's called O'Casey's and I will play there at 7.30 pm
Earlier that night I will play at Ned Kelly's.
It's gonna be a great festival with many songwriters from all over the world so I hope you will come over and support.
